Is penis related to pregnancy?
18 Jan 2010 | 2:34 pmDrake writes, "What is the effect of size while making love? Will I be able to make my wife pregnant even if the size is very small?"Size and pleasureDespite all the myth and misinformation, it is not the size that matters but what you do with its and all other body parts when it comes to satisfying a woman. I know women who have told me that men with very tiny organs gave them great orgasms and men with huge ones did not know what to do with it. Generally speaking even the smallest size can please a woman. So go out there and do what you can with it and your hands,… -
Should I have a child with my married boyfriend?
13 Jan 2010 | 1:28 pmCindy writes, "I have read all the the advice you have given to everyone about dating married men. I am 24 years old and I have an affair with a married man. We have been together almost 6 years. Since his wife has not been able to get pregnant, he really wants to father a child and I am happy to do so. I am also not sure if I am prepared to go through another pregnancy and raise a child. He says that I look younger and would do just fine as a mom. My friends believe he is too young for me, but I have to say that he is more mature than a 40 year old. I do not want to scare him, but I think after 5… -
Did Jennifer Lopez have IVF for her twins?
7 Jan 2010 | 8:29 amWhenever a Hollywood celebrity gets pregnant in her advanced age the speculation is always rife that she may have had assisted reproductive therapy (ART) like IUI, IVF, donor eggs, or in case that she simply cannot get pregnant on her own, use of a surrogate mother. That is why when Jennifer Lopez became pregnant with twins Max and Emme (multiple births are more common when in vitro fertilization is used), a lot of people suspected that fertility treatments were used. J Lo is now denying that. She says that when it comes to family and relationships, she is quite traditional. … -
Tila Tequila surrogate mom
28 Dec 2009 | 1:19 pmAs I highlighted previously, as some women fail to get pregnant naturally or struggle with other infertility issues, the new trend is to use surrogate mothers. Most couples (gay couples or gay dads simply have no other option and people like Sarah Jessica Parker, Marissa Jaret Winokur and Ricky Martin have used them) are simply buying their services but some lucky ones may find that a family member or friend may take on this enormous responsibility, hopefully, for no monetary gain. Now a woman that is just way too controversial, Tila Tequila, is going to become pregnant -- hold your…

Does Google Map’s Use of All Right’s Reserved Photos From Flickr Violate Copyright?
9 Feb 2010 | 10:43 amIt was interesting to read over at Rev Dan Catt’s blog today that Google has now begun including Flickr photos into their Google Maps product. I love Google Maps and use it *heavily,* especially when planning trips to new cities to photograph. Basically, when you are in Google Street View mode for any part of Google Maps, you are presented with an option to click on “user photos.” Google then presents you with a list of thumbnail sized photos that you can go through one by one and view actual photos on the maps based on their own Picassa photo sharing and now Flickr. As you… -

In addition to Butterfield, former Flickr employees Cal Henderson, Eric Costello and Serguei Mourachov are also co-founders of a new company called Tiny Speck that is… -

His photography is pretty good as well and can be found here. Check it out, if you haven’t already.

GLAAD Arrives Late to the Capleton Reggae Boycott. And Ignores Its Very Vocal Informant

That is, from a guy who sings "shoulda know seh Capleton bun battyman, dem same fire apply to di lesbian” (“you should know that Capleton burns queers, the same fire applies to lesbians”). People keep asking… what do I make of Apple’s iPad?
31 Jan 2010 | 11:03 amNow that the dust has settled and I’ve had time to gather my thoughts, here’s what I make of the iPad, Apple’s own take on the tablet computer. It’s an Internet appliance not a computer While the tablet computer is nothing new, the iPad is, arguably, a completely new product category, which appears to occupy the middle ground between a smartphone and a laptop. If, of course, such a middle ground exists. Unlike the raft of Windows Tablet PCs, which Bill Gates once claimed would be the future of personal computing, replacing the desktop and laptop, the iPad doesn’t… -

This year we are seeing content-filled products coming to fruition, and deals being made to make watching Internet TV on the big screen a comfortable reality. At CES this year the Internet set top boxes (STBs) evolved. But with the innovation comes fear. ECO gadget cases made of wood
8 Feb 2010 | 10:30 pmWe loved the concept behind the Touch Wood last year, NTT DOCOMO’s cypress phone. Now, once again mixing eco and design insights in that bravado way that only Japanese product designers seem to know, the Moku Deji (もくデジ or “Wood Digital”) series from Game Tech and With Smile Ltd. brings consumers natural wooden covers for their iPhone or Nintendo DS consoles. It feels smooth and natural in the hand, and is arguably more eco than a plastic case (not just aesthetically of course, but also in the manufacturing process). 7 Feb 2010 | 5:58 amfinished? Charles Bukowski. the critics now have me drinking champagne and driving a BMW and also married to a socialite from Philadelphia’s Main Line which of course is going to prevent me from writing my earthy and grubby stuff. and they might be right, I could be getting to be more like them, and that’s as close to death as you can get. we’ll see. but don’t bury me yet. don’t worry if I drink with Sean Penn. just measure the poems as they come off the keyboard. listen only to them. after this long fight I have no intention of quitting short. or late. or… -

BRILLIANT. GENIUS. I cannot tell you how excited this makes me! My favourite thing is what Ed Sims, Air New Zealand’s international manager said — which makes perfect sense. Perhaps the best thing about all this creativity is that it is primarily focused on economy class and long-haul flights because, as… -

I only managed to grab myself a white tube from MNG, while my sis and Elly have got themselves each a nice pair of heels and sandal from Vincci. We continued to shop even more and even harder on the next coming day, stay tuned if you wanna find out ;) After shopping, we sat down in this cafe named Delicious for a little refreshment. Betong: The Southernmost Town of Thailand

This place has successfully attracted quite a huge number of tourists from nearby Malaysia, Pengkalan Hulu (formerly known as Kroh or Keroh) in particular. Together with my mom, we went to buy some "stocks" from the local markets. We managed to grab some fresh ingredients from the food market too. Saw my mom's hairbun? I desperately wanna blog about my 3D2N KL shopping trip but the problem is that my "antique" laptop doesn't have the card reader which supports the memory card used by my Sony camera. You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again.A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up, She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose. Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. -
Take Time to Play
7 Jan 2010 | 6:03 amWith the New Year, every one is busy setting goals, focusing on making some major things happen this year and motivated to work hard. These are all key elements to success, but one element so often overlooked is the Time to Play.As children, we looked forward to our friends knocking at the door asking if we could "come out and play". It was a huge element to our growth and development. But as adults, we tend to see play as a time wasting activity. Sometimes, we confuse competition with playing. Golf for example is a great sport and personally something I have spent a great deal of time doing. -
Transforming Dreams into Reality
6 Jan 2010 | 6:26 amEveryone dreams, we all have ideas, visions, yearnings, desires and yes, even fantasies we think about and wish would become reality. This is the course of human nature, but not all of these dreams could ever become reality, simply because of the number of dreams we create in our minds along with the fact many of our dreams would not make a real difference in our lives. However, many of these dreams hold a deep and constant reoccurring place in our minds and our hearts. These are the dreams we can easily turn into actual goals if we are willing to commit the effort. They are the dreams we are… -

Are you Living Your Life With a Clear Purpose?
29 Dec 2009 | 6:07 pmWashington Irving said; "Great minds have purposes; others have wishes."Each of us have tremendous potential residing within us. Some find the potential and nurture it, others find it but let it go, others never find it and still others never even look for it.But regardless of who we are, what our circumstances are or the life we have lived, the potential is there for us all. I believe the underlying difference in the manifestation of huge successes and the lack of success, is that some people attach purpose to their potential and create amazing results while others live life haphazardly,…

…T-Post lets you play Rock, Paper, Scissors with your t-shirt?
3 Feb 2010 | 6:18 amT-Post is a monthly magazine that gets delivered as a t-shirt, with the news story on the inside, and an artist’s interpretation of that new story on the outside. This month, they’re talking about Higher Education, and Marc Stromberg’s t-shirt design includes an augmented reality tag that allows you to play Rock, Paper, Scissors with a hand that comes out of your chest when you sit in front of a webcam. Don’t believe me? Check it out: Now I’m not quite ready to call Augmented Reality clothing a trend, but with the Adidas AR Game Pack and now a shirt that plays Rock, Paper, Scissors,… -

…It’s Things Thursday: Time Machine?
28 Jan 2010 | 6:26 amIt’s hard to imagine a clock that’s cooler than the Time Machine. Instead of hands, the Time Machine drops a chrome ball down a wooden track every sixty seconds. As the balls stack up, the numbers that they come to rest next to tell the time. It’s loud, it’s imprecise, and it’s severely over complicated, but I challenge you to try and find a more interesting way of counting off the minutes. -
…Travis Pastrana is indestructible?
26 Jan 2010 | 6:42 amTravis Pastrana’s world record setting New Year’s Eve rally car jump in his Subaru WRX was impressive: What’s even more impressive though is that he managed to destroy his practice car and then walk away from the accident like it was no big deal: The man is either a cat working on his ninth life, or he’s indestructible. Either way, I can’t wait to see what he thinks of next.

How To Choose The Best Idea For Your Location Independent Business
8 Feb 2010 | 1:00 amImage by Orin Zebest One of the biggest roadblocks we’ve come across when working with people who want to become location independent is deciding upon and then implementing an idea for their location independent business. The thought process seems to go something like this: I must decide upon the best idea for my location independent business…I think I’ll try this one. Oh wait, no I can’t launch it because I don’t know enough about it yet so I’ll just do some research first. Hmmm, I haven’t done the research because I’m not sure that idea will… -
Could Panama Be Your Next Location Independent Destination?
5 Feb 2010 | 1:00 amPhoto of Panama City from Cerre Ancon by locationindependent You may or may not know that we have a small but growing directory of Little LIP Travel Guides. What makes them stand out from other travel guides is the fact that they’re written by authors who have spent more than a few days in a place and who really know the destination as a local might. In this series, we’ll be interviewing some of the authors and asking them to share more information about their particular destination. The first stop on the tour is Panama City, Panamá – this also happened to be our first… -
You’re Not Worth Anything Right Now
31 Jan 2010 | 9:00 pmImage by Great Beyond “I’m worth far more than that!”, you might be thinking. But are you really? This is a tough topic for me to write about. I’ve gone on record before saying how great things were in early 2009. A year ago, I was writing marketing plans for startup companies to take before million-dollar investors and getting paid $1,500 a pop for them. I was getting projects to the tune of $600-$700 every couple weeks. Money was flowing, my pen was flying (well, the cursor on my computer screen anyway – who uses a pen anymore?) and life was good. And you know… -

17 Jan 2010 | 9:00 pmImage by monkeyleader Editor’s note: This is a question from one of our readers and community members of the Turkish edition. If you read Turkish, you can see the original post here Ali in Turkey says: Being in the last year of university keeps me away from everything and puts me in shackles. I feel like there is no life before the school finishes and I am wasting every second of my life. BREAKING: Lady Gaga Did Not Invent The Wheel
31 Jan 2010 | 3:28 pmHonestly? I'm not the biggest fan of Kelis, Rihanna or Lady Gaga. However, I have been fascinated lately with the obsession some in the media seem to have for crediting Lady Gaga with just about any fashion trend that is even remotely "avant garde" since her debut - as if she were the first to do it! (There is a reason I didn't use the phrase "reinventing the wheel.") Sure, some acknowledge Madonna as an influence to her, but you would think she were the first musician to ever put on say, a lace mask, in the history of music or fashion. Um, no... Kelis… -

Chuck Schumer, Rep. Nydia Velazquez) and the keynote speaker was Danny Glover. This is the second-most interesting event I have gone to involving Dr. King. Pace Yourself
7 Feb 2010 | 10:11 pmThis is a part of the series of posts that tie back to the 11 Life Lessons I Learned From Running. I have a tendency to start out too fast, whether it’s running or my new pet project. I expend all of my energy quickly, wearing myself out too soon. When running, I have to sing to myself (or find some properly paced music) and match my step to the beat. Though it feels too slow at first, it quickly begins to feel right (and then becomes too fast on the hills!) Like running, I have to create a “pace” in life. Most often I do this in the form of entries in my todo list/planner. -
It’s Easier With a Goal
4 Feb 2010 | 10:06 pmThis is a part of the series of posts that tie back to the 11 Life Lessons I Learned From Running. I don’t know about you, but I have to have a goal when I run. It makes no difference whether I’m running to a destination, or during a time-frame. Without that set goal I will come up with lots of excuses and you’ll find me on the couch instead of the sidewalk. It’s easy to coast through life, reacting to events instead of proactively planning. By doing so you end up wherever life tosses you. By setting your own goals, you determine where you will end up and take control… -
You Need the Proper Equipment
2 Feb 2010 | 10:25 pmThis is a part of the series of posts that tie back to the 11 Life Lessons I Learned From Running. I’ve run a half-marathon in a size-too-small shoes. Fortunately, I was able to walk the next day. You need good quality tools that get the job done as efficiently and effectively as possible, but no more. It’s easy to over-do and over-think the tools that you use. Just like a pair of good, well-fitted shoes to run in, a quality notebook and pen helps me get my writing done. While my laptop may hbe more features, it also has more ways for me to distract myself. I am in a continual… -
It’s Easy to Over-Complicate
31 Jan 2010 | 10:19 pmThis is the first in a series of posts that expand on each of the 11 Life Lessons I Learned From Running. Running is simple. You get out there and put one foot in front of the other till you’re done. Many people obsess about the details and make it into a chore. In life, many people get caught up in the details and over-complicate their lives. They feel like they need the newest gadgets, the fanciest homes, and the snazziest job titles. They try to keep up with the Joneses. This desire for more and better ends up stressing them out, making it so they can’t enjoy the stuff that… -
11 Life Lessons I Learned From Running
29 Jan 2010 | 10:02 pmRunning can give you time to clear your mind, to think about important things or nothing at all. It occurred to me that a lot of the lessons I’ve learned from running apply to life as well. It’s easy to over-complicate. You need proper equipment. It’s easier with a goal. Pace yourself. Sometimes you need a break. Conversely, sometimes you have to push through. It’s hard to get going again once you slow down. It’s harder by yourself. There’s no time like the present to get started. You get better with practice. Look around and enjoy the view. Over the next…

How to Be Smart – while Feeling
4 Feb 2010 | 10:27 amImage via Wikipedia Who Is in Charge – Your Rational or Emotional Brain? A recent NPR story speaks about how our emotional brain often makes those tough decisions – but that’s not a surprise. If we’re to get honest, we would admit that the big or stressful decisions are often emotional decisions. In our rational culture we learn to justify that our gut feelings are correct with our logic and rhetoric. The problem comes in our collective belief that our “brains,” or rational minds are in charge. We all have deluded ourselves in believing that as Descartes said, “I think… -
Want a Powerful Life? Use Your Hidden Resources – Part 3
29 Jan 2010 | 7:33 amMagic to miracles Do you want miracles? Then you need magic. Image via Wikipedia Magic comes from something beyond you. For some, it is their relationship with their Creator. For others, it is their relationship with Nature, a hobby or maybe a sport. In all cases, you surrender much like you we described in the previous post where you learned to be. Here you learn to go beyond just being yourself. Here is the rub, you may be doing this, but in a limited way. If you’re like many of us, you learned to check out. A therapist would label it disassociating. Let’s call it escaping. From a… -
Want a Powerful Life? Use Your Hidden Resources – Part 2
26 Jan 2010 | 7:11 amBeing to doing How do you make it easy? How do you find your flow? After you healed your need to survive – then what? Image by kevindooley via Flickr In the previous post, we learned about how therapy clears out your limiting past. It isn’t necessary to clear out the past and heal to work with being; it just makes it easier. I often work all three elements simultaneously; but then I’m greedy. Let’s talk about being. You don’t need to be a Buddhist monk to get power from being present. You just need to be mindful or aware of what is happening. Our tendency here in the United States… -
Want a Powerful Life? Use Your Hidden Resources – Part 1
22 Jan 2010 | 6:21 amImage via Wikipedia Why can existing be so hard? Why does it feel like you are fighting the inertia of the entire universe to have the life you want? I doubt you are using your innate capacity to fully live. In previous posts, I’ve written about the Whole Adventure or Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey as being an unconscious movement to evolve. If the Whole Adventure is your evolutional process and the river you travel to your new self – what is the power that will propel your down the river? Beyond the desire for this journey, you have the means to facilitate the needed change. If you… -
The Tension of Relating
19 Jan 2010 | 2:23 pmImage via Wikipedia I couldn’t agree more about what Andrew Cohen is call Creative Fiction in his recent post. So often I see people attempting to be politically correct, new age or just safe in their conversations. I love it when someone is willing to risk it and possibly mess it up to speak her truth. Speaking it is different that forcing it on someone. Andrew writes about, in relationship there needs to be a space for the “fiction” to show up. It is there. If not expressed it comes out indirectly, i.e., passive aggressively or goes in to your body to produce tension and resistance.

Finding Wine that Fits Your Palette
7 Feb 2010 | 4:20 amHere are 3 tips for finding new wine to love and enjoy. Once you discover a wine that you like, note the vintage (year it was made) as well as the producer and variety (type of grape, e.g. Syrah) and where you bought it. It’s also helpful to write down the price & whether it was on sale. You can use a notebook that you keep in your kitchen & grab when you go shopping, or you can use a computer program. Once a vintage is sold out, you won’t be able to find that wine again, so I recommend buying at least a case (12 bottles) if you have room to properly store it. Some… -
Tableau Vivant – Living Art
6 Feb 2010 | 9:56 amI took this photo with my old Canon Powershot at the Napa Valley Mustard Festival Kick Off party. I didn’t photoshop it because the graininess adds to the illusion that this is a painting. Instead, as my title suggests, it’s a live model within a theatrical painted set. I was touched by this modern woman modelling (in a body suit). With so many women being shy about their body (myself included), it’s lovely to see a strong curvy gal showcased in modern art. Kudos to the model, the artist responsible and the producers of the Festival. -

Radio Shows Never Grow Old
2 Feb 2010 | 6:44 amThis post was inspired by my Guidebook being a speed dial gift on KQED’s Winter Pledge Drive. I’m so proud to be part of the great tradition of public radio! Before television (and Twitter) people gathered around the radio for entertainment. I’m too young to have those memories directly, but I loved the TV drama The Waltons, about a depression-era Virginia mountain family. Also, firmly in my memory bank is the War of the Worlds Play read by Orson Welles in 1938. (Available as a podcast.) Today, I’m hooked on radio story-telling. I love This American Life on my… -

‘The Simpsons’ Go Blu!
11 Jan 2010 | 11:09 amThe Simpsons is inarguably one of the most influential television shows in history. Winning countless awards and breaking countless records (including being the longest-running prime-time show in US history), The Simpsons is celebrating twenty years (and twenty-one season – and counting). What better way to celebrate than with the 20th season on Blu-Ray? Season 20 was the first season The Simpsons went HD (though not until the second half of the season) so it seems fitting that it be the first season released on Blu-Ray. All 21 episodes are spread out on two discs, and look beautiful. -
Burt’s Bees All Natural Hand Sanitizer
16 Nov 2009 | 10:33 amI hate Purell. I love the sanitizing quality, but it feels sticky and heavy on my skin. Luckily Burt’s Bees has a solution with their own, all-natural hand sanitizer. Utilizing ethyl alcohol for sanitation, witch hazel to soothe, and aloe vera to moisturize, this liquid spray leaves hands soft and clean without any funky residue. The only downside is that the 2oz spray bottle is not quite as convenient to carry in your purse (though I have had Purell leak all over my bag, and it wasn’t pretty), but I can live with that. -

Idea for a sequel to the 70’s classic, “Black Sunday” – the Goodyear, MetLife and Direct TV blimps all crash into each other. Peyton Manning still sounds to us like the name of a car dealership. Saints – sentimental favorites. They need a little more than sentiment after the first quarter. A Simpsons commercial – without a Homer “Doh!”??? Bud Light commercial: a house made out of… -
KENNEDY’S BARBER CLUB BLOG: MAKEOVER MISTAKES
12 Jan 2010 | 10:38 amHas it been a while since you’ve changed your look? Do you even understand what the words “change your look” actually mean? Well guys, it’s a new decade, which we at Kennedy’s All-American Barber Club® see as a perfect opportunity for change. It’s time to modernize your wardrobe or finally ditch that mullet and join the 21st century – even if you’re a decade too late. That’s why we tackled this delicate subject in our recent article, “The Kennedy’s Barber Club Guide to The Manly Makeover.” But then we realized that we only told you what to do and left out what not to… -
KENNEDY’S WANTS YOU TO SAY “I DO”….TO GOOD GROOMING!
31 Dec 2009 | 3:34 amIf you’re getting married – or if you know someone who’s getting married – we invite you to review our article, “Grooming the Groom”, which contains some useful tips to help any groom look his best. All of us at Kennedy’s All-American Barber Club® want whoever’s “taking the plunge” (isn’t there something vaguely threatening about that phrase?) to look like a million bucks on their wedding day. Of course, you’d prefer to just have that million bucks – that would make for quite the honeymoon – but we all do what we can. And what Kennedy’s can do for you is offer… -
DOCKERS, BARBERSHOPS AND MANLINESS
9 Dec 2009 | 8:48 amIt’s no secret that one of the reasons we started our Kennedy’s All-American Barber Club® franchise was to help resuscitate one of the last bastions of guy goodness – the traditional barbershop. Before the 70’s came along, a man could count on going to a barbershop and being treated like a man, not to mention having ready access to a Sports Illustrated that was seven years old. Then came the unisex chop shops with their weird yellow-green-pink color schemes and the next thing we knew, old Joe the Barber was selling out his business to make room for another pilates studio. Today, men… -
CELL PHONES AND BARBERSHOPS: IT’S HARD TO HEAR WITHOUT EARS
7 Dec 2009 | 11:07 amThere’s been a whole lot of talk – and a few new laws created – over the safety issue of using cell phones while you’re driving a car. It’s unbelievable that some people try to text while they drive – there’s a reason why keyboards never became one of the standard dashboard instruments. But while that particular problem has gotten all the media attention, another safety issue has gone completely ignored – that of using cell phones in a barbershop. Well, in little old New Zealand (which is not a part of Australia, by the way), one barber has taken a stand. Peter Bradley,…

Help for Haiti from the Serene and the Sarcastic
15 Jan 2010 | 1:59 amWhen I first heard about the earthquake in Haiti, I thought, "God, that kinda sucks." I was at dinner with friends at the time and had no idea the extent of the devastation. In the coming days, I learned more through the radio, the internet and Twitter. I toyed with the idea of texting a donation, but was unsure about the legitimacy of sending some random text. Then there was this story on NPR last night. In it, they mention a man whose entire family survived, but he was visiting a clinic and holding hands with and comforting people who had lost loved ones, including an… -
6 Reasons You Can- Project 365
11 Jan 2010 | 3:42 amProject 365 Mosaic 1, originally uploaded by ThreeBySea.My holiday season officially ended this weekend. While others called it quits after New Year's, I still had my son's birthday to prepare for and celebrate and my niece's birthday out of town to attend. Today I begin getting back into a daily groove and focusing on my resolutions and projects for this year. The first one I'm sharing is my Project 365- a photo a day for a year. This was a last minute resolution, but I'm glad I decided to join this project. I take a ton of pictures, but my photo taking tends to be… -
New Shop Items- A Preview of Possibilities
6 Jan 2010 | 6:52 amI'm still in holiday mode here at Three By Sea, as J's 2nd birthday (a weekend-long affair with my family) was this past weekend, and I'm off to my sister's for my niece's birthday this coming weekend. What can I say? Apparently family planning is a foreign concept with my sister and me! At any rate, this will be my third trip out of town in six weeks for a family get-together. One of these days I'll be caught up and back to a normal routine. One of these days...In the meantime, I wanted to share a preview of some designs I'm testing and playing with. Forgive the… -
New Year's Reading
31 Dec 2009 | 12:03 pmBelow are three books I've purchased in the last two weeks. Can you tell I'm all pumped and motivated for the New Year to begin?First I have The Awe-Manac: A Daily Dose of Wonder by Jill Badonsky, a fun book of daily inspiration and creative prompts. It's the inspiration for how I'm organizing my daily journal this year (one of my resolutions for the New Year's- more on that later). Then as a Christmas present to myself, I ordered Twyla Tharp's The Creative Habit: Learn It and Use It for Life. It was recommended by Gwen Bell, whose blog is like a daily dose of zen for…

If There Was No Criticism Or Praise, Who Would You Be?
9 Feb 2010 | 8:29 amWondering how you would answer this question… It was asked by Howard Behar, former president of Starbucks International in his book, It’s Not About the Coffee… “If there was no criticism or praise, who would you be?” I’m thinking on it myself. I’d very likely be more candid in some of what I write, post and speak about. But, I’d essentially keep being exactly who I am and doing what I do. That’s an interesting realization for me. But, I still need to contemplate the question a bit more. How about you… -
8 Timeless Rules For My 8-Year Old Daughter
8 Feb 2010 | 9:01 am[Expanded & updated from the original post that appeared on this day 2 years ago today] Driving home with my organic, soy chai latte in hand, today, I began to wonder what the critical lessons I should be teaching my daughter were. She’s only 8, but I wanted to make sure I got my most treasured thoughts down, to capture my deepest wisdom. So, not wanting to be late, lose my thoughts or spill my chai, I whipped out my iPhone, began to type in one hand, while steering with my knees and balancing my chai in the other (Joking, people…I actually steered with my navel, not my knees. -
The 4 Delusions of Entrepreneurs
6 Feb 2010 | 8:03 amAsk an aspiring entrepreneur why they’d kill to make the jump and, without fail, four of the top 5 reasons will be: Freedom Control Money Passion They dream of working their own hours, not having to report to “the Man,” skipping though fields of money, loving what they do every moment of every day and changing the world. All great aspirations. Question is - How much is real, and how much is outright fantasy? Let’s take a deeper look at the 4 big entrepreneurial motivations, bust a few myths and open a few eyes: 1. Freedom. First let’s break it down. What do… -

Over the last few weeks, I’ve had a few friends launch or make me aware of some very cool entrepreneurship, career evolution and business trainings or projects. I’m sharing them because I’m betting you guys barraged by garbage promotions, trainings and products revolving around entrepreneurship and business-building all the time and I’m happy to do a bit of vetting and bring to you people and solutions I trust (FYI – I am not a JV partner in any of these, nor do I get any money… -
What’s With The Mini Business Cards?
4 Feb 2010 | 5:42 amI first saw them circulating about a year ago… Those mini-business cards, about the size of a tear-off on a flyer at the supermarket. Sure, they’re cute. They’re different. But, here’s the problem. They’re built to lose. Just like the millions of flyer tear-offs that people take, then promptly lose or throw out, because there’s not logical place to keep them. So, somebody explain to me, why would you go and take a business card that’s designed to fit into a spot where other business cards are found, where people remember to look for it, and transform…

If it's good enough for Louis Vuitton, it's worth a try.
8 Feb 2010 | 12:25 pmYou would think it’s impossible for a foodie to not know about what is quite possibly the world capital of gastronomy. Unfortunately for me, I only learned about Lyon, with its internationally-renowned chefs like Paul Bocuse and its more than 40 outdoor food markets, after I came back from trip to France.I had meticulously planned our trip, hitting Paris of course not for the food so much as the experience of being in the city of lights. Then it was off to Bordeaux. Had I known about Lyon, I might have skipped Bordeaux, since they are on opposite sides of France. However, I’m so glad I… -
Bologna à la Biba
5 Feb 2010 | 7:34 amI remember watching Biba Caggiano on TV in rapt fascination. There she was, whipping up regional, Italian dishes like gnocchi before anyone could even say the word, or biscotti when the twice-baked cookies were then unheard of here in Canada. I loved her lilting voice, her ease in the kitchen and how drool-inducing her dishes always looked. As a teen watching this from a living room in Hamilton, Ontario, I never in a thousand years imagined I’d one day be able to call the much-lauded chef up and say, “So, when I’m in Bologna, where should I go eat?” One of the Grande Dames of Italian… -
Vino! Vino! Wherefore art thou Vino?
3 Feb 2010 | 7:23 amToday I have been diverted by a comment I heard from a friend who didn’t like Verona. She hated all the clichés that I revelled in. I figure a cliché is only cliché because it is true.Of course, there is no truth to the legend of Romeo and Juliet. These were the mental wanderings of an English playwright. God bless the Bard. Nonetheless, multitudes take a pilgrimage to Verona each year to view the famous balcony and cover the archway with banal graffiti. That doesn’t mean it isn’t worth a visit. I might not believe that Jesus can be seen in a tortilla chip, but I still want to see the… -

1 Feb 2010 | 7:22 amA visit to my friend Sherri who lives between Nerja and Frigliana in Spain seemed like the perfect time to hang out and catch up with what she’s up to and maybe learn a little more about Spanish cuisine. I’m not all that familiar with Spanish food and she promised to show me some of her favourite dishes. Before we head the supermercado to shop, we go to the beach for a paella lunch with friends. Given the year round fabulous weather in Nerja, it’s no surprise that everything is outside – the kitchen as well as the tables. The paella pans are a metre wide and there are three or four of… -
Sweet, Cold Gold- Niagara’s Icewine Festival
29 Jan 2010 | 6:58 amThere’s a magical sort of alchemy to taking frozen grapes and turning them into Icewine. Wine makers and sommeliers explain that it’s not alchemy, that ice wine is the byproduct of having good grapes to work with, the right climate and a seasoned, wine-maker. I however, suspect there’s something much more to creating this nectar fit for the gods. Inside the Gala with an Ice SignFor two weeks in January, the Niagara region plays host to the highly anticipated Icewine Festival every year. Last year, I made the rounds to various vineyards using the festival’s “Discovery Pass” and…

Time To Revisit Rado Watches
9 Feb 2010 | 5:34 amRado is a major name in watch making that has become less important in Western markets over the years. The brand that practically “made” ceramic as a major material for watch construction has seemingly been around in the background for a while. For me, the brand epitomized 80’s futurism and modernism when it come to watches. Flash forward to today, and the Swatch Group owned brand is still around and healthy, but not something you see or hear about as often as you might in other places such and Asia, India, or South America. The watches tend to have a smaller shape, and the… -
Project Kahn Gives Maybach a Makeover
8 Feb 2010 | 10:00 pmUltra-high end British bespoke auto conversion house Project Kahn, having tackled every other luxury marque in existence, have finally turned their attentions on the Maybach. The Project Kahn Maybach 57 is designed to be the ne plus ultra in European luxury saloons, quite simply the most stylish means of transportation available anywhere. The wheels are a Kahn RS-D set measuring 9.5” × 22”… -
2009 Watch of the year is up on James
8 Feb 2010 | 3:56 amRemember 2009? Just two months into the new decade and I’m still not used to writing “2010″. It’s such an ugly number in handwriting, don’t you agree? There are more reasons to cherish the year that has passed, especially on the watch front. Just after New Year’s, James summarized the year with a two part article where I was lucky to share some of my favorite watches of 2009. Sadly, I was too much of a vintage sissy to actually include a new watch in my list. The closest thing to a new watch was Breguet’s remake of a pocket watch from the 19th… -
Luxury Insider’s tip: 1972 Jaguar XKE E-Type Roadster
8 Feb 2010 | 1:00 amI was browsing the blog over at Luxury Insider, a great magazine with some cool articles. They recently chose a sweet Jaguar E-type that turned up on JamesList a while back as their pick of the week of sorts. Quoted below is the piece in question. If this 1972 Jaguar XKE E-Type Roadsterwere a historical, cultural landmark UNESCO would have made it a world heritage site. It’s that beautiful. This original gem was lovingly restored and completed just a couple of years ago. Nearly everything on the car was either restored or replaced altogether so the car looks as it would have done when… -
Historic Steel Superyacht Madiz for Sale
7 Feb 2010 | 10:00 pmThe Madiz built in 1902 has a fair claim to being the world’s oldest steel superyacht, having been the first such vessel to be classed with the storied Lloyds Register of Shipping. Built by the Ailsa Shipyard in Troon, Scotland and originally christened the Triton, the stately 55.4 metre yacht served in the British Royal Navy as a Royal Patrol Yacht during World War II, and King George VI, Queen Elizabeth and the present Queen Elizabeth used her on several occasions. She’s also the last surviving ship to have been personally designed by G. L. Watson, the pioneering yacht designer who…

DIY Valentine
8 Feb 2010 | 5:36 amChildren (and grown-ups) love to make things, and there is nothing quite so heart-warming as a handmade Valentine. Make this year a DIY Valentine’s Day. Here are two ideas to get you started! For a “heart-felt” project, cut out hearts from felt, sew them with colorful beads, and string them together with more beads! My children loved making these simple and darling valentine’s day decorations. I found plant-dyed felt here, and the beads at my local bead store, Bead It. Paint a simple heart using watercolors. Then mat and frame it and voila — a lovely… -
Lemonade (and Lemonade the Movie)
5 Feb 2010 | 5:44 amMaster Cleanse Devotees may claim that Stanley Burroughs (the man behind the Master Cleanse) invented lemonade. But of course, deep down, they know better. In fact, lemonade has been around as long as lemons and that’s a long time. Lemons have a wonderful revitalizing quality. All the more reason not to wait until the summer to serve up a glass. We need a little sunny lemon in our lives during these gray February days. Which brings me to Lemonade the Movie. Ever heard of the phrase “if life gives you lemons, make lemonade?” (I tried to find the origin of that… -

The Cincinnati Reds and the Boston Red Sox. The American Flag and St. George, the Red Cross Knight. The Red Army. Apples, strawberries, cherries, tomatoes, pomegranates, cranberries, peppers and red wine. Blood-red, rose-red, ruby lips and the Red Sea. Top Ten Tips for the Best Bath, and Bonus: A Personal Bathing Retrospective
1 Feb 2010 | 7:26 amI never took a bath. I mean, for thirty years, I never bathed. Maybe when I was a baby, but I can’t be held responsible for that. Talk to my mother. So for most of my life, I’ve been a shower girl. Never a bath. And we had a bath. In fact my mom and my sister are bath devotees — the whole works, candles, bubbles, reading material. But for many years, it never caught on with me. I don’t think I had the time, and I certainly did not have the inclination to soak myself wrinkled for hours, or even for a minute. But times have changed. I’ve… -
Toast and the Toaster and the Toaster-Maker
29 Jan 2010 | 9:03 amDIY (Do it Yourself), Slow and Green, are all movements and concepts which are intertwined and connected. Here’s a DIY story, which is oh so Slow, and teaches a lot about Green: Consider if you will, the delightful pleasure of toast. Not only a way to redeem stale bread, toast is also a symbol of hearth and home. “It isn’t only fictional heroes to whom toast means home and comfort. It is related of the Duke of Wellington – I believe by Lord Ellesmere – that when he landed at Dover in 1814, after six years’ absence from England, the first order he gave at the…

What Are You Afraid Of?
8 Feb 2010 | 7:52 amThere are only two emotions: Love and fear. Feelings of jealousy, disappointment and anger arise when we are feeling scared. When we're stuck, we become terrified. God promises us the world but we still fear what we do not know. It is easy to convince ourselves there is no use in trying but we must remember fear can be useful. It helps protect you from harm when you're not sure of an outcome. Fear is a sign something exciting is about to happen so don't trick yourself in thinking of it as an excuse to turn your back on an opportunity. Stretch out of your comfort zone. Is your fear reacting to… -

No. 1
5 Feb 2010 | 8:35 amWho ever said "1 is such a lonely number" couldn't count down to zero. I see a lot of family and friends settling for partners who are not really who they want to be with. They can have so much better but they stay with a man so they do not feel alone. Wouldn't you rather be happy alone than miserable with somebody else? Do not stay with someone for the sake of not feeling lonely. It's silly to try and fix a relationship that is simply not holding together. No one can make you feel complete but they can make you better. I believe we have to love ourselves first in order for someone else to… -

4 Feb 2010 | 2:59 pmIf I could give the world just one gift for a day it would be a booking in Paris at the Dior Spa. I would schedule everyone a lavender aromatherapy massage, a facial treatment, and a [french] manicure. We would all have time to dress slowly and slip on our velour robes. It would be complete couture. We would walk around in our plush slippers, feeling as light as clouds. We would leave yesterday's stress behind us and live in the moment. Our spa appointment would even last all day long. There would be an endless amount of French Ladurée Macaroons in every colour you could imagine. Fresh…

I was an immigrant teenager in America and this question made me shudder every time. It was an unusually common question back then. It must have been my awkward accent or just my awkward self. High school was more than enough of a culture shock but I managed it fine in the end. This question however always unnerved me. Where are you from? The inevitable question would ensue after my first words of greeting. The dread at the pit of my… -
Sadly Ever After: Three Books to Tear Into
3 Feb 2010 | 4:09 amGuest post by Frank Mundo. You can follow Frank on Twitter or visit his site at Examiner.com. My wife says that I only like to read sad books. She says that, when we go to the bookstore and she reads the summaries on the backs of the books that I just bought, she can tell right away if I’m going to like them or not, long before I even read them. And she’s usually right, too. At least, she’s right about whether or not I’ll end up liking them. But just because she’s right doesn’t mean that I only like to read sad books. If fact. I think her books are way sadder than mine. She likes… -

So I tell my writing students the same thing: Wear them down. – Luis Alberto Urrea I love exploring a writer’s brain. Why do they do what they do? Do they ever get tired? Do we have to be writing 400 words a day, every day from 4-5pm? What if I forget how to spell? While no one writer has all the answers, it’s fascinating to hear the colorful responses – where they differ and where they align. Before I… -

There seems to be at couple of immediate assumptions with ‘lifestyle design.’ The… -
